I whipped through this novel about an American anthropologist,
Martina van der Leun, sentenced to 50 years in jail for a murder in
Thailand without leaving my couch all day except to get more snacks.
I'm sure my anthropologist daughter will have some scholarly quibbles
with it, but I was riveted by the rites and rituals of both the
fictional tribe in the novel and the academics and missionaries
hellbent on studying or converting them.
