My talented cousin Oscar Casares is publishing his first novel in 2009. It is part of a two-book deal with Little Brown. He published his first book, Brownsville, a collection of short stories, in 2003 and he soon became an up and coming writer. Book Magazine named him one of the “Ten Writers to Watch in 2003.” That same year he was on the cover of The Houston Chronicle’s Zest magazine and he hosted the prestigious Book & Author Dinner.
Texas Monthly Magazine published a wonderful feature article about him and soon after Oscar was writing for Texas Monthly Magazine as a contributing author. He wrote about his father, a winning soccer team, his dog and the year 1974. The latter was later picked up by the Hecho en Tejas anthology of Texas writers.
Now, six years after his first book, Oscar will publish his much anticipated first novel, Amigoland. As his cousin I have been looking forward to the debut. Be looking for it in 2009. I think that once again Oscar will be a writer to watch out for!
P.S. By the way, Oscar is the brother of Sylvia from Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen.

I have to say that I'm a tad jealous for your obviously-talented family! You write, Oscar writes, and his sister makes amazing food? It's just too much. :) I am happy for your cousin and will def check out the book. Thanks!
