The perfect balance between motherhood and working woman is always precarious. It’s not a job for the faint of heart.  It can be rewarding on both ends, but it’s also a challenge.

Business trips are challenging for “working” mothers. Not only do you have to pack your own things, but you have to prepare everything for your children. It’s actually double packing, because you need to make sure that the children have all that they need when you’re gone. I packed a bag for my sister who is keeping them over night and a separate bag for the sitter, so that my sister doesn’t have to pack my son a bag each day. She can just take him to the sitter’s in PJs. The sitter’s bag will also become my mother-in-law’s bag when she picks them up on Friday afternoon.

Business trips are also opportunities for my husband and I to get away together. He has been to New York, LA, and Chicago with me in the past three years. He has a great time sightseeing while I’m in my conference and then we meet up for the evening events. Even though I’m working, it provides great time for him alone and time for us together. This trip is nearby, so this time he’s taking his golf clubs and he’s playing while I’m at my conference. He’s really looking forward to that.

As much as I love my children I also enjoy these mini vacations from them. I think that they make me a better mother when I come back
