Crystal Shivers, a Boys and GirlsHarbor resident, presented the poem she wrote on empowerment to Diana Ross during her recent visit to Houston.Crystal, through her gift of poetry, has overcome adversity, abuse and a lack of permanency to inspire others to rise up and become productive members of society. An aspiring lawyer and public speaker, she would love to be Wonder Woman, but is content to “bring joy to others that need a boost in their day.”

“I feel like every hardship was worth encountering. I am a strong young woman who makes the best of every obstacle life throws my way.”
