Leslie Cuenca is painting beauty.
“My paintings are journals of my life and reflections of what I see and feel.” Leslie, originally from Cuba, is a long-time Houstonian, a graduate of the University of St. Thomas, a gallery associate, dancer, historian and teacher. But, above all, Leslie is an artist. With the flexibility of oil as a medium, she portrays a diverse range of subjects that originate from nature, her travels and surrounding cultural world. Her creative spark? Leslie is intrigued with “unexpected and spontaneous beauty.” Her work, which has been displayed throughout the metropolitan area, inspires an intimate connection with the public. “People identify themselves to some extent with my paintings. I think the color and forms make them feel happy, positive and hopeful—even if some subjects might be melancholic.” As a former resident of South America and Florida, this local Latina proclaims “Houston is diverse and friendly. People here are always willing to give me an opportunity.”
