Nao Kusuzaki exposes her heart through dance.

“Dancing to music is an expression of life—which is too short, but full of surprises, and often a mystery.” Nao, a native of Japan, is a Demi Soloist in the Houston Ballet and is certified in the fitness genre of Gyrotonic. Beginning her formal study in Washington D.C. at age 10, a single performance of Serenade secured Nao’s passion for ballet as an art form with endless possibilities. “My creative outlet is through my work—where there is music, movement, acting; where I have the freedom to be an individual; where I’m given raw material (steps) so I can add my own layers to it to create something unique and special.” Nao, previously a dancer in the Boston Ballet, is the daughter of a research neurobiologist currently in Africa and a school counselor in Japan. “My inspiration definitely comes from my family and friends who are living their dreams.”
