Clinton and Obama in Unity...

Friday, June, 27, 2008

This evening I viewed a video clip on the web that talked about Obama and Clinton meeting in the tiny hamlet of Unity, New Hampshire.  Apparently they are to campaign there together on Friday.  The interviews showed some of the town’s residents asking why Unity?  Why here?

But truly, I think they know why already.  Unity!  The very name sparks embers of hope and hope is one thing we need right now.  Hope….and unity!

For weeks now I’ve listened to political analysts suggest, speculate and loudly proclaim that the Democratic Primaries have divided the Democrats.  So what better place for these two former foes to meet than in this small, but vital, American town?

The residents of Unity describe the town as very small, a population of only 1,600.  They said they have no cable TV there, no Internet access, and no streetlights.  One gentleman said they were lucky to have telephones in their homes!  (Sounds like a tiny sliver of Heaven, doesn’t it?)

The people of Unity struck me as honest, down-to-earth Americans who are proud of their community and have a genuine interest in their world.  They sounded intelligent and spirited.  They’re excited about the event…they’re going to serve hotdogs and hamburgers!  Nothing’s more American than that, unless you’re going to throw an apple pie into the mix and bat a few baseballs around.  (I secretly hope that apple pie will be served – yum!)

BTW – Clinton and Obama both received the exact number of votes in Unity, New Hampshire.  107 votes each.  (I just hope more than 214 voters plan on exercising their right in November.  Although McCain has been popular in New Hampshire, this state has been known as a ‘swing state’ since the 1990’s, most likely another reason for the meeting in Unity.)

So, despite the obviously contrived meeting place, I think Unity will be a terrific place for Obama and Clinton to meet up for a burger and shake a few hands together.  I believe the American public wants unity and the Global community needs it!  I know I’m ready for some unity!

Unity, I salute you!

Unity = the quality of being United into One.  Harmony.

Man, Bill's been working this campaign more than Hillary it seems. I think he was just dying for a third term. :) But yes, Unity, how perfect is that?
