everyone’s story. Stages Repertory
Theatre and Pink Ribbons Project have joined forces to bring an
original musical about breast cancer to Houston: Unbeatable: A Bold New Musical
makes its Houston debut in Stages’ Yeager Theatre September 3 – 28,
2008, following an August 2008 run in Phoenix; it is scheduled to debut
at New World Stages in New York City in October 2008. “I was very
impressed and deeply moved,” said Angela Lansbury following a preview
performance; Beth Overmoyer, a medical oncologist, commented, “Unbeatable
shows the roller coaster ride we live daily – only with a LOT more
humor! It is fabulous!” and Ginny Clark, board member for Susan G.
Komen for the Cure Greater New York City responded, "Unbeatable is a wonderful, outstanding, heart-wrenching play with a purpose. Worth seeing more than once!" Five percent of Stages’ Unbeatable
ticket sales benefit the Breast Health Collaborative of Texas, an
organization committed to uniting breast health advocates and providers
to educate, advocate, and leverage resources in Texas. “Unbeatable
reaches far beyond the idea of breast cancer and the struggle of
illness - it is a play about the power of love and the everlasting
capacity for change in all of us,” said Stages Producing Artistic
Director Kenn McLaughlin. “Laurie’s story is
everybody’s story,” said breast cancer survivor Susan Rafte, executive
director of Pink Ribbons Project and recipient of the 2004 Carpe Diem Spirit of Survivorship Award from the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
