Katy Anderson

Capturing the perfect moment, anticipating actions and reactions and giving stillness life are skills Katy Anderson uses everyday for her job. Armed with a camera, instinct, inherited talent, and a spike of good luck, she is on a one-woman mission to hold on to her heritage and the history of her hometown through photography.

As just a little girl, a devastating fire destroyed Katy's family home taking with it two generations of pictures and family history. Her mother quickly taught her to use a camera and from that moment on, the Minolta went everywhere with them. Despite such a tragic loss, Katy was optimistic and began spending hot summers creating new projects and reinventing the family photo book. A proud native to Lovelady, TX, Katy's most recent project is The Fodice Foundation, a grassroots organization with nonprofit status pending that will provide an artist residency program to bring about artistic development, support arts education and advancement in the state of Texas. And more importantly, the Foundation will be housed in the historic Fodice School in her hometown!

My family: is the most precious thing in life.

My work: allows me to meet many inspiring people.

My passion: is enjoying life in the company of interesting people.

My family: My immediate family includes two beautiful, talented, grown daughters, one small grey cat and my sister from Denmark who is about to go on a Walk About. Only the small grey cat will still be living with me after my sister leaves. Sydney, my oldest daughter, is a Graphic Designer in New York City and Sarah, my youngest, is living in Chicago and going to school.

My Work: I am officially an Art Teacher at Waltrip High School in Houston. I keep thinking that my work is making art, but I am so sporadic about it that I had better not give up my day job.

My passion:
My passion has and always will be making art. Yet, maybe even more so than making my own, I am passionate about encouraging others to express themselves visually. It makes me crazy to hear someone say "Oh I can't draw". Do you really thing Rembrandt would think that Picasso could draw?

My favorite possession:
I have a small diamond circle necklace that my daughters bought me for Mother's Day. I never had a diamond ring, so they bought me a ring of diamonds.

My hometown: Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky

I'm thinking about: All these questions you are asking me.

The most important thing I ever lost: My one baby picture. But, I am sure that it is in the house somewhere.

The food I could eat every day: Collard greens, cornbread and fat back.

The world would be a better place, if only: we treated others like we want to be treated and if cultural differences and diversity were respected.
